About Rutledge, TN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Rutledge, Tennessee was founded in1798 and named for a General George Rutledge who had served in the Revolutionary War, and commanded a company at the battle of King's Mountain. In 1801 it became the county seat of Grainger County, a distinction it retains to this day. Andrew Johnson, who would later become the 17th president, had a tailor shop in Rutledge in the 1820s, and in 1976 a replica of his shop was erected on the lawn of the Grainger Count Courthouse.
Today, Rutledge has about 1,100 residents spread out over about five miles of land. The city is perhaps best known for hosting an annual Tomato Festival each July to celebrate Grainger County's produce. The festival includes a street dance, a beauty pageant, historical agriculture displays, Civil War re-enactors, and of course a giant two-day tomato fight.
Summers can be quite hot and humid in Rutledge, with several of the late-July Tomato Festivals reporting temperatures close to 100 degrees. Spring and summer bring rain, but this tapers off quite a bit in September and October. Snowfall in winter is fairly limited, although temperatures can be on the chilly side.
