About New Market, TN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
New Market, Tennessee is a small town of about 12,500 residents located in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Although New Market has had a relatively quiet history with no major battles or natural disasters to its name, it does have one man-made accident for which it is famous: the New Market Train Wreck of 1904, in which up to 113 people may have been killed when a train heading for Knoxville collided with one heading for Asheville, North Carolina. At the time of the accident, it was the worst train wreck ever to have occurred in North America. New Market was also home to author Frances Hodgson Burnett between 1865 and 1872, and is where she first began writing short stories before later gaining fame as the author of The Secret Garden and A Little Princess.
Today New Market is home to the Highlander Research and Education Center, which was founded in 1932 and provided training for a number of leaders in the civil rights movement. Today the center is focused on economic issues and voting rights, and is making special efforts to reach out to recent immigrants from Latin America.
New Market's climate is typical for the southern Appalachian region, with warm humid summers, rainy springtime weather, and dry, cool autumns. Winters are chilly but not too harsh, and snowfall is limited to just a few inches per year.
