About Morristown, TN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Morristown, Tennessee was originally founded by a farmer named Gideon Morris, who had come from North Carolina to Tennessee with his family in the late 18th century. While the old Morris homestead no longer stands, the family graveyard can still be seen on East Louise Avenue, on the eastern end of town near the Morristown-Hamblen Library. Today Morristown has a population of nearly 30,000 and serves as the county seat of Hamblen County.
Downtown Morristown can boast a feature unique to the area, its famous Skywalk. The Skywalk owes its existence to a flood in 1962 that nearly wiped out the entire commercial district. At this time a new mall outside town was also drawing shoppers away from downtown, so the city decided to build these overhead sidewalks to add not only a second level for retail establishments but also serve as a canopy for sidewalks below. The Skywalk was completed in 1969, although there are plans in the works to renew and revitalize it so it can continue to serve as a hub of downtown activity.
Morristown's climate is pretty hot and humid in summer, although its elevation (1,350 feet) keeps it cooler than cities farther to the south. Winters are cool, and occasional snowfall has been known to occur.
