About Jefferson City, TN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Jefferson City, Tennessee was originally settled in 1788, and given the name Mossy Creek. The creek itself proved a hub of early local industry: a grist mill opened in 1795, soon to be followed by more grist mills and a number of sawmills, as well as an iron works, an axe-handle factory, and a cotton-spinning factory that shipped thread to other states and overseas. Farming was an important source of local income as well. In 1863 Mossy Creek was the site of a Civil War battle, a union victory. Although the battlefield is not at present state-owned, nor is it open to the public, plans are underway for a Knoxville historical corridor, and it is hoped that at least part of the battlefield will be preserved.
Today Jefferson City, which was renamed in 1901, is known for its proximity to the Cherokee Dam, a hydroelectric facility constructed during World War II. The Cherokee Reservoir is popular with locals and visitors alike, offering boating, camping, and fishing for walleye, crappie, black bass, sunfish and other species. Another local recreation area is Douglas Lake, which offers similar amenities. As Jefferson City is located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, its elevation keeps temperatures on the mild side in summer, but winters can be chilly and a moderate amount of snowfall may occur.
